Mechanical Tests

Test the resistance of your equipment


Mechanical tests evaluate the behaviour of equipment under real conditions of use by applying mechanical stresses (shocks, vibrations, accelerations, etc.).

Sopemea has all the necessary equipment on a single site to meet your mechanical testing needs.

The utilities available (electrical power, 50Hz/60Hz/400Hz supply frequencies, water pressure and flow, etc.) allow these tests can be conducted on large equipment in their usual operating conditions.

Testing is conducted by qualified technicians and engineers.

Measurements during mechanical testing

A data acquisition centre is used to record several hundreds of measurement channels, whatever the orders of magnitude (accelerations, displacements, constraints, acoustics, etc.). Special recorders verify the equipment during the tests (transient faults, electrical peaks.)

Structural Tests


Sopemea teams have a 32-channel command system to conduct several structural tests simultaneously.

A complete range of hydraulic actuators are used to cover a wide range of forces (up to 1000 kN) and displacements (up to 500 mm). Some tests, at much lower forces, are possible with PLC controlled pneumatic actuators. These tests can be conducted in controlled climatic conditions (hot, cold, damp, etc.).

Sopemea is also equipped with hydraulic power units enabling high flow rates and allowing dynamic structural tests (endurance).

These types of tests are conducted on large-sized cast-iron plates, fitted with combinable modular elements.

The modular test benches are defined and designed by our engineering and calculation office, using SolidWorks and ANSYS.

We also provide our expertise in conducting specific tests (characterisation, lifespan estimations, etc.).

Static fatigue tests on aircraft engine struts, endurance tests on aircraft pilot seats, vandalism tests on SNCF ticket machines, lifespan estimation of Kit-kat Ball distributor, instrumentation and calibration of ultrasound effort measurement system…

These tests are conducted with a centrifuge, operating to several tens of g (accelerations obtained), on equipment weighing several tens of kilos. These tests on equipment in operation are conducted using 100 measurement channels.

Vibration tests


Sopemea is one of the world leaders in this field: it is recognised for its vibration testing, characterisation and consultancy services.

All types of vibration environments can be reproduced, for all sectors of business (Nuclear, Aeronautics, Transport, Defence, Space, Telecoms, etc.).

Low-frequency tests

These tests are conducted on vibrating tables, driven by one or more electrohydraulic actuators. Sopemea has one of the largest range of bi-axial vibration equipment in Europe. A 3m x 3m table with two 300 kN electrohydraulic actuators enables earthquake testing for large-sized equipment weighing several tonnes. Three 10-tonne rolling bridges, a 9-tonne forklift truck and a laboratory entrance measuring 7m x 6m make equipment handling possible.

High-frequency tests


These tests are conducted by electrodynamic shakers. The wide variety of tools used covers a wide range of equipment. Sopemea has the largest electrodynamic shaker in Europe, with exceptional characteristics. Two 10-tonne rolling bridges, a 9-tonne forklift truck and a laboratory entrance measuring 7m x 6m make handling large-sized equipment possible.

Climatic chambers and hot/cold generators are used to conduct combined temperature/vibration tests for example.
