PARC has hosted its first Technical Day at the Bideford laboratory and has been joined by four guests speakers from our French parent company, Sopemea : Bernard Colomiès, our Technical and Expertise Director, Alexandra Backelandt our test manager in the nuclear field, Brigitte Dumont our engineer in charge of the hydraulic and vibration tests on structures, and Damien Riffaud our head of the business development.
During the Technical Day, they have shared their expertise on the qualification of equipment for the nuclear industry. The aim of the day was to present and discuss the issues around RCC-E qualification and seismic testing for the nuclear industry, with particular reference to the Hinkley Point C programme which will be coming on-stream over the coming months and years.
Hinkley Point C will be a new nuclear power plant in South West England, built in partnership with EDF and the UK government.
The Hinkley Point C project ambition is to provide :
- 7% of electricity consumption in the UK, or 5 million homes
- 10% profitability over the life of the project
- 25,000 jobs during the construction of the site, and 900 more to ensure the operation of the new plant
